WIS - Weizmann Institute of Science

Devoted to wide-ranging multidisciplinary exploration of the natural, exact and life sciences, the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) brings together 2,500 scientists, students, and supporting staff. The research efforts include strategies for protecting the environment, new energy resources, the search for new ways of fighting disease, examining new and outstanding questions in mathematics and computer science, probing the nature of matter and the universe, creating novel materials and in general, enriching human knowledge.

Role within PerPrev-CID

The Weizmann Institute of Science leads Cluster 3 "Healthy Variation" in the PerPrev-CID consortium, studying longitudinal omics and physiological variation in healthy individuals using the Israeli 10K cohort. WIS provides multi-year data and biological samples to assess biomarker stability and subclinical changes, leading analysis of metagenomic and metabolomic profiles while integrating additional omics layers and applying machine learning for predictive modeling. For Cluster 2 "Early Disease," WIS recruits newly diagnosed IBD patients (within two years, untreated with biologics) for in-depth profiling including monthly blood/stool samples, DNA methylation, metabolomics, and TCR repertoire analysis. WIS develops predictive models using machine learning to identify early molecular signatures of disease relapse.
